Zoe Saldana, star of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot and its sequel, Avatar, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, is set to executive produce and star in Rosemary’s Baby.

The project is a new adaptation of Ira Levin‘s 1967 novel of the same name, which was adapted into the 1968 horror classic starring Mia Farrow. Instead of a movie, the book will this time be turned into a four-hour miniseries for NBC.

Quinn Taylor, NBC Entertainment’s Executive Vice President, Movies, Miniseries and International Co-Productions, had this to say of the announcement:

“Zoe has proven that she is one of our most gifted actresses and we think she has the perfect combination of spirit and gravitas to take on the title role from Ira Levin’s infamous novel. With Zoe leading the cast under the direction of Agnieszka Holland, this reimagined event mini-series is off to a great start.”

Saldana will play a woman named Rosemary, who moves to Paris with her husband and eventually gets pregnant. The couple was warned of the building they’re moving into’s dark past and ignore it at first, but as time goes on, Rosemary grows more and more suspicious of her surroundings, and discovers something much darker than just the building’s past.

The new Rosemary’s Baby adaptation is written by Scott Abbott and James Wong.

Saldana will soon be seen in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
