Jesse Plemons Up For Lead Role In ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’

Jesse Plemons at the Breaking Bad Special Premiere Event 2013

Jesse Plemons, who starred in Friday Night Lights and more notably in AMC’s Breaking Bad, is being considered for a lead role in Star Wars: Episode VII, according to The Wrap, who cited their own unnamed sources.

Plemons’ audition tape was “well-received” by those involved in the casting process for the highly anticipated installment in the Star Wars franchise, according to The Wrap, who reports that the actor will fly from Los Angeles to Austin, TX for a second audition next week, meeting with the film’s director, J.J. Abrams.

Two of The Wrap’s sources told them that Plemons is “a favorite to land one of the coveted lead roles” in the new movie, while a third source confirmed to them that Plemons “is in the running and a serious contender.”

The site contacted a representative for Disney/Lucasfilm, who had no comment regarding their scoop.

The 25-year-old Plemons, who appeared in films like Battleship, The Master, and Observe and Report, joined Breaking Bad in 2012 in the supporting role of the junior meth-making Todd Alquist, aka “Meth Damon” as the fans dubbed him, thanks to his likeness to A-lister Matt Damon.

No word yet on which character Plemons would be playing if he lands a headline role in Star Wars: Episode VII, which is set to take place after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV: Return Of The Jedi, the movie that chronologically completes the Stars Wars film saga. Speculation is he could play the role of Luke Skywalker’s son (if such a role exists, and I’d think it does).

There’s been no official casting yet for Star Wars: Episode VII, but there’s been plenty of rumors of possible casting for people like Saoirse Ronan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rachel Hurd Wood, Alex Pettyfer, Ryan Gosling, Zac Efron, and more; also, the saga’s original stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher are expected to return.

Last we heard, the script was expected to be completed in January and the film released to theaters on December 18, 2015 (from its original May 2015 release date).

What do you think – should Meth Damon be the son of Skywalker?
