“The year is, like, a billion or something….”
Toys, hastily-assembled costumes, cardboard box “shields,” fake eyebrows, cheesy effects that make Mystery Science Theater 3000 look like 2001: A Space Odyssey, sock puppet “sandworms,” lots of overacting, and of course…space pen. Yes, friends, David Lynch‘s much-derided 1984 adaptation of Frank Herbert‘s landmark sci-fi novel Dune has become the latest film to receive its own sweded video.
You can watch the 7-minute video here below.
Made by Twin Cities Sweding, the sweded Dune is just as crazy and endearingly incoherent as most have judged the film itself to be. Some of the performers look to have trouble keeping a straight face at times. According to the sweders, a 15-minute extended cut of this video that promises to be even truer to the original film is in the works and is coming soon. Whether that is a good or bad thing I will leave it up to you to decide.
