Are ‘Batman Vs. Superman’ and ‘Justice League’ Being Filmed Back-To-Back?

Recently Dwayne Johnson met with executives at Warner Brothers about his potential involvement in a top secret DC Comics movie project that may go into production some time this year. According to an unnamed source for Latino Review that film could very well be the studio’s eternally gestating Justice League, which was originally supposed to be filming for a summer 2015 release before the lack of a decent script compelled the studio to shut down development and shift their resources over to a Man of Steel sequel that would have Superman (Henry Cavill) going head-to-head with Warners’ other big DC moneymaker Batman (Ben Affleck).

The word is now going around Hollywood that both the doubly eponymous Batman vs. Superman (name subject to change) and Justice League will be filmed back-to-back and be released within a year of each other. Supposedly this is because the studio wants to capitalize as much as possible on the filming time they have with the busy Affleck, Cavill, and Johnson.

Another possible reason is that Batman vs. Superman looks to be concluding with “an insane cliffhanger/teaser that leads right into Justice League” and WB wants to have the Super Friends movie ready to go the next year in the manner of the Matrix and Pirates of the Caribbean sequels and the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies – all four of which were filmed concurrently and released about a year apart (with the exception of the Matrix sequels, which were released six months apart in 2003).

Now that this rumor has been unleashed onto an unsuspecting Internet the rampant speculation of multiple DC Comics heroes making cameos in Batman vs. Superman is starting to make sense. The latest of which has Josh Holloway (Lost) up for another role in the film, most likely that of Aquaman. DC and Warner Bros. really want that Justice League movie to happen and they want it so bad that they are prepared to force as many of their superheroes down our collective throat in one movie as humanly possible in a desperate attempt to beat Marvel Studios at their own game.

This is reminding me of the story of the tortoise and the hare, except that the hare is running at a casual pace and the tortoise is taking performance-enhancing drugs and subsisting on a diet of its own flop sweat to catch up.

  1. Too bad the lack of a decent script didn’t keep them from going ahead with TDKR or MoS.

  2. Merely speculation, at this point nothing is known. DC clearly has a plan and the internet is simply fanning the flames. Yawn, wake me when it’s actually time to go see the film.
