  |  @   |

Director James Cameron has already confirmed that Stephen Lang will be returning for the the three planned sequels to his 2009 megahit Avatar, and now comes word that the original’s leads have been secured as well.

It’s being reported that both Sam Worthington, who plays Jake Sully, and Zoe Saldana, who plays Neytiri, have finalized their deals to return for Avatar 2, Avatar 3, and Avatar 4.

Of the news, Cameron said:

“Jake Sully is a rare combination of passion, strength, street smarts and soul, which requires a lot from an actor. Sam brought to the role a combination of sensitivity, vulnerability and strength. Zoe captured every aspect of the character I envisioned, bringing to Neytiri a mix of delicacy, fierceness and incredible physicality. I am beyond pleased they’ll be returning with us to Pandora.”

Where the sequels will take us is not known yet, but it has been revealed that the Jake and Neytiri characters will have children. It’s also been said that at least one of the sequels will heavily involve water.

The three Avatar sequels will film together, with releases planned for 2016, 2017, and 2018.
