It’s that time again, boys and girls. That’s right! It’s Kickstarter Spotlight time! Today I bring you a comic from a series from which we have already reviewed a couple of issues — The Threat. I reviewed the premiere issue here and The Red Bandit reviewed the second issue here. This Kickstarter is for The Threat Issue 4. The Threat is the brainchild of Vince Chuter and Mark Schmidt. It has a very manageable goal and they are almost at the halfway point in both funds and time.

That’s where we come in as comic enthusiasts. Most of us are readers of the larger press comic companies, but how many of us support the smaller, independent publishers? I have a lot of love for Stratum Comics since they are based right here where I reside in good old Texas. I would say right down the road from me but if you’ve ever been to this huge state then you know nothing is right down the road here. Regardless, this is your chance to help bring a dream to life. But before you decide, let me tell you a bit about the comic series. That’s fair, right?

Imagine a world where governments have lost their grip, be it because of economics or from political challenges. In this new world, businesses have taken over the role of creating order from the chaos. Of course, as with most large corporations, the main goal is to line their own pockets and protect their own interests. In a very Dickensian setting, we are shown the haves and the have-nots and in this case they are based in Houston. But alongside the corporate fatcats and average joes, we have some folks that are called Virals. Through mutation (or perhaps augmentation) these individuals have developed some pretty fantastic abilities and they show a marked aversion to being captured or contained. This story is all about setting up the story and it seems to be leading to a team up of the more civic minded Virals as they stand up for the rights we all take for granted.

I must confess, I’m a big fan of this series so far. I’ve even gotten a sneak peek at this issue right here and it’s loaded with action. With such a manageable goal, this Kickstarter is sure to get funded just like their last one. There are plenty of rewards for anyone who donates. Two dollars gets you a digital copy of the comic, whereas thirty bucks gets you all four issues! If original art is your thing, pledging a Benjamin gets you an actual page from the comic or a personalized work from the artist, Matthew Weldon.

So you see, there’s no reason not to give a little. I cannot stress enough how much every dollar means to independent comic writers and artists. They work tirelessly to create these comics and everything we give helps them out more than you might think.
