Captain America: The Winter Soldier isn’t due to hit theaters until April, but, and not to anyone’s surprise, Captain America 3 is already in the works.

Maybe it’s the ’70s political thriller vibe, maybe it’s just because the film has the Marvel Studios stamp on it, or maybe it is something else; but Captain America: The Winter Soldier is on a lot of people’s most anticipated films of 2014 lists, and all for the right reasons. The sequel has already won over audiences who attended secret test screenings. Apparently the reaction has been so positive Marvel Studios is in early talks to bring directors Anthony and Joe Russo back for another Captain America sequel.

Variety reports that terms of the deal are unlikely to be disclosed since Winter Soldier isn’t out in theaters for a few months. Of course, for a sequel to actually happen, the film has to do well at the box office, but judging by the reported positive reactions at test screenings, Winter Soldier should have no problem securing the numbers necessary to get another one going.

The Russo brothers join Jon Faverau and Joss Whedon as the only directors who were able to come back and direct a sequel. Alan Taylor directed Thor: The Dark World when Kenneth Branagh passed on the opportunity to return. Joe Johnson directed the first Captain America film.

Starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johannson, Robert Redford, Samuel L. Jackson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, and Emily VanCamp, Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens in theaters on April 4.
