The GoD List: Comics For February 12, 2014
  |  @   |

Each and every week, I, “Olympic Curling!!!!!!” and “Ugh, this again?” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of February 12, 2014. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

I don’t know if you saw last week’s list, but it was quite long because I had a lot of books to be excited about. That is not quite the case this week. That’s not to say there’s nothing to get hyped about. Certainly not with Marvel and Image launching a new series or twelve every week. So, let’s tell you about some series that are starting this week and one that’s coming to an end. Because everything old is new again on The GoD List!

Henchman 21

She-Hulk #1 (Marvel Comics – $2.99) In the future, Charles Soule will write all the comics. It’s inevitable at this point, which is okay, because he’s been doing a good job so far, which brings us to his 2,369th monthly series, a relaunch of Marvel’s She-Hulk. Now, what makes this series interesting for me is knowing that Soule is a practicing lawyer, just like She-Hulk herself. My hope for this series is that Soule brings an air of authenticity, while still keeping the sense of fun that has existed in previous She-Hulk series. John Byrne broke a lot of ground with his fourth-wall breaking on the She-Hulk series in the 80’s and Dan Slott bought his own irreverent take on the character in the 00’s. I hope that Soule is bringing a bit of silliness because when you’re dealing with a super-strong green-skinned lawyer, silliness is pretty much called for. As long as he doesn’t go for the “serious” take on She-Hulk, this could be another fun superhero series that is different from other titles I read.

The Fuse #1 (Image Comics – $3.50) I saw The Fuse on the list, but I had to remind myself why I was interested in it. Firstly, it’s from Image, who is putting out so many great books that each new series is at least worth flipping through. Second, it’s by Antony Johnson, who I’ve generally liked in the past, and whose work I’m liking a lot on his new series Umbral (pick up the first three issues, seriously). Thirdly, it sounds like a cool sci-fi/mystery series about a homicide that takes place on an energy platform orbiting the Earth. So, take a trusted publisher and writer and a cool sounding premise and you will get my hard earned cash. It’s just that easy to get me to buy something. (Check out my full review of The Fuse #1 here.)

RoboCop: To Live and Die in Detroit (BOOM! Studios – $3.99) Winner of the coolest title of the week. I have no idea if this is just a standard RoboCop story or if this ties into the reboot movie. I’ll buy it just for that title.

Wolverine and the X-Men #41 (Marvel Comics – $3.99) I’m sad to see Jason Aaron’s run on the book come to an end, but I’m glad that we’ll basically get a continuation of it in Amazing X-Men. Still, this was a great X-Men run that brought in some good new characters and gave some polish to characters that had been around for a while. I had a blast with it month in and month out.

Empress Eve

Star Trek: Khan #5 (of 5) (IDW Publishing – $3.99) The final issue of the IDW miniseries Star Trek: Khan #5 is finally here, so it’s a no-brainer — it’s a must-have. This 5-issue series gives us a look at how the villainous superhuman Khan Noonien Singh came to power, and how he went from being a South Asian youth to the blue-eyed British John Harrison persona in the film Star Trek Into Darkness. Khan #5 is out in print now, but comes to the Kindle on February 19, 2014. If you’re not reading this series, go ahead and catch up:

Khan #1 (Kindle
Khan #2 (Kindle)
Khan #3
Khan #4 (Kindle)
