Comic Book-Themed Show ‘Geek Cred’ Needs Your Support!
  |  @   |

Nerdy television shows are few and far between; some portray us in over-the-top ways while others seek to make geeks seem cool and reserved. Granted, there are some that fall into each of these categories, but what about the rest of us? Well, a new series called Geek Cred seeks to educate the masses about the goings on in an actual comic book shop. With the catch phrase “By fans. About fans. For fans.” in place, they are fundraising via Indiegogo as of February 5, 2014. They plan to start shooting this Spring with a goal of premiering the show in late May.

Check out their official press release, some posters, and the official Indiegogo video after the jump.

A new comedy series BY fans ABOUT fans FOR fans!
GEEK CRED. Get some!

Los Angeles, CA: Geek Cred is a new comedy centered around the pop culture-laden misadventures of Callie and Ben, employees at a comic book store, their aloof boss Spencer and Jerome, a regular customer who always gets mixed up in the employees’ adventures.

Geek Cred isn’t just ABOUT fans; it is legitimately BY fans. Starring Michele Boyd (Team Unicorn, The Guild, Battle of Los Angeles), Wes Robertson (Blunderkind, Hell and Mr. Fudge), Damion Poitier (True Blood, Dollhouse, Marvel’s The Avengers) and Miley Yamamoto (How to Rock, Retcon ) and directed by creator Daniel Beals (Sexy Nightmare Slayers, Old Rivalry, Mediating Kidnapper), Geek Cred will also showcase and be shot in a real comic book store, The Comic Bug in Manhattan Beach, CA.

Daniel Beals worked his way through high school in a comic store in Farmington Hills, MI and even back then (yeah, it’s been awhile) he knew the setting was ripe for comedy and outlandish characters. Now he’s bringing his dream to fruition because as he sees it, “It’s time we (comic fans) had a show for US.”

Geek Cred’s Indiegogo campaign kicks off in February 2014 with a premiere date scheduled for late May. For up to date information, follow us at the social links below:

GEEK CRED will be to comic fans what The League is to sports, The Guild is to gaming and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is to alcoholism.

It’s piqued my interest, that’s for sure. I remember working in a comic shop as a teen, and living above one in my twenties, and there was always some sort of ridiculousness going on. The Indigogo campaign has 31 days remaining, and has currently raised $4,583 of their $36,000 goal.

Additionally, here are the video and posters they have released for the series.
