Music legend Bruce Springsteen seems to be having a bit of fun on his current tour of New Zealand.
New Jersey’s native son opened his recent concert at Auckland, New Zealand’s Mt Smart Stadium with an acoustic version of “Royals,” the Grammy-winning song by Kiwi teen singer Lorde.
Check out the video here below of the Boss covering the hit tune.
Springsteen, whose songs typically tell the plight of the working class and the underdog, lends some gruffness to “Royals,” a song that takes a stab at materialism, excessiveness, and opulence. It might seem peculiar that the Boss would choose the reluctant pop queen’s hit song, but it not only served as a tribute to New Zealand, but the lyrics also fit the Springsteen mold.
During Springsteen’s final show on his recent Australian tour, the Boss and his E Street Band covered “Stayin’ Alive,” the hit song featured in 1977’s Saturday Night Fever by Australia’s favorite sons, The Bee Gees. The band also took on AC/DC’s “Highway To Hell” when they performed in Perth, Australia, which is where the late AC/DC singer Bon Scott grew up. Those videos are here below, too.
