When Marvel decided to to rip the Ultimate Universe apart, they made the decision to send in Galactus to handle that business. The shockwaves, of course, rippled through all of the Ultimate Comics Universe, but the main story took place in Cataclysm: The Ultimates Last Stand. Now with that event series complete, Marvel has teased Survive, the next chapter in the retooling of the Ultimate Universe that follows the aftermath of the Cataclysm.
Survive #1 will begin the building of a new Ultimates team, it will reveal all of the heroes that died, and it will begin to reveal what will become of S.H.I.E.L.D. The book hits store shelves and digital apps on March 26, 2014, but is available for pre-order now. For now we have a preview of some of the art from the first issue of this new series – check it out here below.
Many heroes have died and if we are to believe what we are told those heroes are gone from the Ultimate Universe. This new version of the franchise will focus on more “B” grade characters such as Cloak and Dagger. Some A listers remain though, such as Spider-man. It appears that these remaining beaten heroes must band together to rebuild after the destruction Galactus brought. The creative team for Survive is Brian Michael Bendis and Joe Quinones.
“You’ve got all these characters [that] have been through hell together and now they’re coming out the other side and they’re kind of committed to each other, now that Captain America’s gone and some other characters aren’t making it back,” says writer Brian Michael Bendis in an interview with Marvel.com.
“A lot of these characters are very young, and with that comes a lot of emotion, a lot of drama, a lot of people making some disastrous mistakes both in their professional and in their personal lives; and all of that will be on display right away.”
