Today, March 8, is International Women’s Day, an annual observance to celebrate the achievements of women, and also to bring about political and social awareness of the struggles of women around the world.
Along with there being a Google Doodle today in honor of the day, some of our favorite geeky proprieties are getting in the spirit, such as Star Wars, which shared an image of the many kick-ass women of the their universe, along with the message, “Happy Galactic Women’s Day!” Check out the image here below, along with some other messages for this most excellent observance.
Each year, the United Nations gives the day a specific theme, with 2014’s being Inspiring Change, which “encourages advocacy for women’s advancement and calls for challenging the status quo for women’s equality and vigilance inspiring positive change.”
Follow the hashtags #InternationalWomensDay and #IWD2014 on Twitter for more on what’s happening for International Women’s Day 2014.
