Could Jean-Claude Van Damme Return In A Future ‘Expendables’ Movie?
  |

Jean-Claude Van Damme gave a fantastic performance in The Expendables 2 as the aptly named Jean Vilain though, for reasons we’ll leave vague here on the off chance you haven’t seen the film yet, he would not be able to return for a future installment. With JCVD, much like the rest of the 80s and 90s action superstars currently enjoying a bit of a renaissance, it’s a shame we won’t be able to see him take on Sly Stallone and the rest of the crew again. Or could we?

Van Damme has openly expressed his desire and willingness to return to the franchise, along with a bit of a potential teaser that could bring the muscles from Brussels back for more van damage. Check out what he had to say here after the jump!

In a communication with the fansite Expendables Premiere, Van Damme provided them the following statements via Twitter:

I had a great time shooting The Expendables 2 with Mr. Stallone and other big action stars.

Mr. Stallone is an inventive man. He may even create a stronger character than Claude Vilain, the twin brother of Jean Vilain.

Some fans ask me if the next Vilain –if there’s next– is going to be a good or a bad guy.

I would leave it to Mr. Stallone to decide, as I trust his way of imagination. Thank you, JCVD

This is not the first time Van Damme has mentioned Claude Vilain, the supposed brother of his character Jean Vilain, having first mentioned the existence of the off-screen character all the way back at the premiere of The Expendables 2.

Van Damme is no stranger to playing both roles in a set of twins, having done so already in Double Impact, Replicant, and Maximum Risk. It would be a great callback to those films and the usage of a single actor playing dual roles in general in a future Expendables sequel.

With The Expendables 3 not set to premiere until this August, and the all-female spin-off The ExpendaBelles currently getting production underway, it may be a while before we see a chance at Van Damme’s return, but if we do, it will be well worth the wait.

  5. Van Damme had his chance when stallone wanted him for the first
Expendables. He asked what is my role and turned him down. A very stupid
decision. He should’ve just said yes I will be a part of it. It’s time
to move on and let someone else be cast with these legends. Stallone has
enough big names and should add some new faces for EX4.

  6. Mr. Van Damme’s decision is smart. Your comment is stupid.
    It’s that simple!

  7. if it was smart he wouldn’t have to beg the greatest action star ever to be in his film. Who is stupid now punk????? Go to bed. ;)

  8. As a matter in fact “guest” you are not informed at all!
Van Damme reffused the role because Stallone didn’t have a good part for him.
If Van Damme took the role in EX 1 that role would be smaller, and his appearance on screen would be much shorter than in the EX 2.
You have interviews all around Youtube so next time you write a comment make sure that you are informed about the things that you say.

  10. Another punk
that has no idea what he’s talking about. If he accepted Stallone’s
offer, he would be an Expendable character probably for as long as the
brilliant one(Stallone) makes them instead of the Belgium making his
straight to dvd films. It was a stupid, stupid mistake and he knows it,
that’s why he is crawling back to him!!! Is that enough info for ya, now
    it’s Nix’s time to go to bed.haaaahha :D

  11. Noone crawled … Sly didn’t have a role for JC in the 1st one.. He said to JC that he is gonna fight with Jet Lee and that’s all.. If he took the 1st Ex he would act for only one fight , and his screentime would have been too short.

    Comment by Nix Damaged — March 21, 2014 @ 8:33 am

  12. JCVD was preparing The Eagle Path, mate. It’s like JC to say to Sly:
“Hey, Sly, leave EX1 and come to me with the Eagle Path.” Sly was busy
with EX1, JCVD – with The Eagle Path, and that’s why he refused EX1.
    Simple as that
