Welcome aboard the Disney Fantasy, the newest and grandest of all the Disney Cruise Line ships. Disney’s breathtaking vessel beckons fun on every deck.

This video-themed edition of Disney In Depth takes you to many of the exciting places on board the Disney Fantasy, and how you can best experience the Disney Cruise Line offerings.

Continue reading for my list of 7 Favorite Things On The Disney Fantasy, and to see a video detailing each of them.

Two months ago I embarked on my most recent Disney cruise, my second time on the magnificent Disney Fantasy, truly Disney Cruise Line’s crown jewel of luxury and relaxation in one comfortable atmosphere. As I spent my mornings eating in the Finding Nemo-themed buffet (Cabanas) and evenings watching the variety show acts and game shows within The Tube, I considered how many distinct and appealing offerings the Disney Fantasy offers. The kiddos run around the film-themed clubs, playing on interactive game boards, whereas the adults lounge in the calming pools and dance the night away in the London-themed lounge.

Stealing a line from The Sound of Music, here are a few of my favorite things aboard the Disney Fantasy.

1. Midship Detective Agency: The Muppets have definitely been integrated in many aspects of Disney, from films to the parks – they even take voyages. The interactive game that exists on many decks of Disney Cruise Line’s newer ships (Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy) possesses a special version for this ship. Kermit the Frog and Pepe the King Prawn host a fun and immersive whodunit expedition that takes guests to various spots on the ship – all in the hopes of discovering which Muppet has “stolen the show.” Guests must stand in front of magical paintings located throughout the Disney Fantasy, manipulating seemingly ordinary cards to conduct tasks, including “pulling out knives” and “fixing pipes.” This is Disney interactivity at its most fun and funniest.

2. Elegant staterooms: Every exhilarating day requires voyagers to hit the hay in comfortable and calming atmospheres. Luckily for them, each stateroom on board the Disney Fantasy exudes elegance. The carefully organized staterooms, much larger than those found on comparable cruise liners, have space to store all belongings. Additionally, the Disney themes extend to the bedding and fixtures, most having a Mickey Mouse touch. Most staterooms have an ocean view, and the indoor rooms include a novel element: virtual portholes, complete with animation of Disney characters.

3. Deck parties: Sail away in Disney style. Goofy, Donald, Chip, Dale and the rest of the gang join the Cruise Staff to get everyone – even those reclining on deck chairs – on their feet and moving as the Disney Fantasy deports its dock. Disney Cruise Line caters to every demographic, from the little tots to the grandparents, and the engaging deck parties are indicative of that.

4. Adult lounge and entertainment areas: But not everyone wants to see the characters every minute of the day. That’s why us grown-ups get special treatments in areas only designated for those 18 and up. Europa, the European-themed entertainment area on the Disney Fantasy, possesses multiple lounge spaces themed to various countries overseas, including Italy, the United Kingdom, and France. Did I mention that the bathrooms are the coolest lavatories you will likely ever visit? The hand-crafted artistry, depicted in the murals that are found in each of the circular-shaped lavatories, are absolutely stunning. The signature restaurants on board (including Remy, themed after Ratatouille) house Pixar-inspired wine – albeit designated for John Lasseter. Fortunately for the diners, the only rodents on board are in the form of carvings and silhouettes that resemble the fictitious rat who plays chef.

5. Animator’s Palate (Animation Magic show): Well, as I said, character immersion exists if you seek opportunities involving the iconic legends. At the workshop-like Animator’s Palate restaurant, guests can draw their very-own characters – as long as they fit within the human-form outline – and see their works come to life right in front of them. Through Disney magic, and some special technology that has garnered Disney Cruise Line significant and well-deserved acclaim, these drawings join Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters in an entertaining show that concludes dinner.

6. Animated elevator rides: Never has traveling up to your stateroom been this entertaining. Should you board one of a few special elevators midship on the Disney Fantasy, you will see the likes of WALL-E, Buzz Lightyear, Peter Pan, and Zazu traveling upstairs with you. Drawings of these famous flying friends scale the outside of the elevator shaft for much of your journey, making the hike up to bedtime – or perhaps to the Disney Cruise Line pool deck – all the more animated.

7. Pirates in the Caribbean fireworks: I prefer live theater any day to a colorful spectacle in the sky, but thanks to Disney Cruise Line perfecting the mix of both forms of entertainment into one, I can say I love this mesh. The Pirates in the Caribbean night, which takes place on practically every voyage on Disney Cruise Line, features a pirate party, appearances by Jack Sparrow, and the “Buccaneer Blast,” a.k.a. fireworks at sea. The pumping Hans Zimmer music echoes across the deck as fireworks are launched. Disney Cruise Line is the first liner to offer fireworks. Needless to say watching the fireworks illuminate the dark sea sky is pretty awesome – far from “yo ho-hum.”
