HBO and Amazon Sign Exclusive Multi-Year Streaming Deal For Prime Members
  |  @   |

Amazon has announced a new multi-year content licensing agreement with HBO, bringing their exceptional library of content online exclusively to Amazon Prime members through the Prime Instant Video service.

Series and mini-series that will be available for Prime members to watch include The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, The Wire, Rome, Big Love, Deadwood, Eastbound & Down, Band of Brothers, John Adams, early seasons of Boardwalk Empire and True Blood, and much more. Other series, such as more recent hits like Girls, The Newsroom, and Veep, will eventually be made available to watch over the course of the new agreement, approximately three years after they first air on HBO.

Continue below for a full rundown of what will be available.

The first wave of content will arrive on May 21st, with Prime members gaining access to the following:

  • All seasons of revered classics such as The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, Rome and Six Feet Under, and of recent favorites such as Eastbound & Down, Enlightened and Flight of the Conchords
  • Epic miniseries, including Angels in America, Band of Brothers, John Adams, The Pacific and Parade’s End
  • Select seasons of current series such as Boardwalk Empire, Treme and True Blood
  • Hit original movies like Game Change, Too Big To Fail and You Don’t Know Jack
  • Pedigreed documentaries including the Autopsy and Iceman series, Ghosts of Abu Ghraib and When the Levees Broke
  • Hilarious original comedy specials from Lewis Black, Ellen DeGeneres, Louis CK and Bill Maher
  • The deal is big one, as it is the first time that these shows will be available through an online-only subscription streaming service. It’s also an interesting one, as many thought it was only a matter of time before HBO simply offered HBO GO, an app that allows their customers to watch programming on tablets, phones, and so on, as their own streaming subscription service for those who didn’t want to pay for the channel through their cable TV provider.

Speaking of HBO GO, that service will also be made available on the Amazon’s new Fire TV, with a targeted launch planned for by the end of the year.

The most notable omission in all of this is of course Game of Thrones. There’s no mention of it anywhere in the press release, and it’s unclear if it, like other newer shows, will also be made available three years after airing on HBO.

All programming will continue to be available on all HBO platforms.
