Joss Whedon Says Ultron Is “Genuinely Disturbed” and “Everything A Robot Never Is”
  |  @   |

Ultron is one of the most complex villains the Marvel Universe has come across, so for him to appear in the upcoming Avengers: Age Of Ultron could change the way we see our heroes now and in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So when Joss Whedon cast James Spader as the titular villain, we started to see what kind of complexity Whedon was going for.

Now in a new interview, Whedon describes what makes this Ultron different from the comic books. Continue reading to see what he had to say.

Here is Whedon talking to Empire about what it has been like to use a different villain for the upcoming sequel:

“Last time, I had all of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes versus one British character actor, and I needed more conflict. I’m having a blast with Ultron. He’s not a creature of logic — he’s a robot who’s genuinely disturbed. We’re finding out what makes him menacing and at the same time endearing and funny and strange and unexpected, and everything a robot never is.”

Well that makes sense. But let’s face it, going up against someone like Loki and the power of the specter isn’t something you want to do as a solo gig. But it will be interesting to see what draws out all those different personalities that Ultron will have. It’ll be even more interesting to see how Whedon can make a killer robot “endearing.”

Opening on May 1, 2015, Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Thomas Kretschmann.

  2. Versus “one British character?” Wow way to put your foot in your mouth Whedon? Wonder when you will take it out?
