The Revolver Golden Gods Awards took place on April 23, 2014 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles and saw appearances by Joan Jett, Guns N’ Roses, and Zakk Wylde, the latter of whom performed an In memoriam tribute for some of hard rock and heavy metal’s musicians who’ve died in recent years.
As Wylde performed the piano piece “In This River,” a tune he wrote for the late guitarist Dimebag Darrell of Pantera and Damageplan, a screen behind him showed images of the late musicians, along with their name, band, and birth/death years. During the song, an image of singer Jani Lane of Warrant appeared on the screen, only he wasn’t credited as a member of Warrant, but rather, as part of – of all bands – Motorhead.
The image above is a screenshot from the video of Wylde’s touching tribute, which you can watch here below.
The tribute did include a member of Motorhead — Michael “Würzel” Burston, who died in 2011 — so it’s likely someone did a copy/paste job and forgot to update the band name.
The mix up kinda sucks, but I have to say, I was happy at least to see Pete Steele of Carnivore and Type O Negative make it up there, especially after the Brooklyn, NY, native was snubbed by the New York Times obituary section after his death (as was Ronnie James Dio and Paul Gray of Slipknot, all of whom passed away in 2010).
