Transformers vs G.I. Joe #0 Free Comic Book Day Edition is the FIRST book you should grab on Saturday, May 3rd when comic stores and libraries all over the country open for the thirteenth annual Free Comic Book Day. With HUNDREDS of other offerings, why should this be the one you grab first?

You wouldn’t believe me if I told you. But, I’m gonna try…

Writers Tom Scioli and John Barber have completely and totally lost their minds. And, it’s pretty freaking spectacular!! Imagine that you were about 9 or 10 years old and decided to sit down with a pencil and a notebook and write and draw a Transformers vs GI Joe comic book. Well, you don’t have to imagine, because this is that book. And it works on so many different levels it’s not even funny. There is something so brilliant in this book’s simplicity, I have no idea just how exactly to describe it. This feels like a cop out, but you really have to read it to believe it. Going in, I will tell you this: NOTHING is what you’d expect it to be. NOTHING.

Tom Scioli is an amazing artist. He makes designs and characters his own, while keeping them instantly recognizable to everyone who’s got even a passing familiarity with the Transformers and/or GI Joe universe. Again, not everything is what you’d expect it to be, but that’s not a bad thing at all. A few of his characters do look exactly the same, and some are drastically different from what their “normal” look is. After my first reading of this book, I found myself going back and flipping through page by page just to have another glance at the art, because it’s that captivating.

Again, you’re gonna have to take my word for this because I’m not going to spoil ANYTHING about this book. It’s crazy, awesome, cool, surprising, and unbelievable all within the first page. And it just gets better from there. As much fun as this issue is, you’re going to be counting down the days until July when this new ongoing series starts.
