This weekend, we had a Doctor Who TARDIS-themed birthday party at Geeks Of Doom Headquarters for our own Dave3. We decorated the wall with a TARDIS and gathered together a few of the many Doctor Who collectibles throughout the place. We had popcorn crunch, milk, and “fish fingers” and custard, but the piece de resistance was a custom-made TARDIS birthday cake!
Below is the low-down with photos of the desserts and decorations; at the end, there’s a full photo gallery with even more pictures from the party.
Allons-y!
First, we took a thin, vinyl tablecloth, folded it in half length-wise, and hung it up on the wall to be the body of the TARDIS. We also added a very adorable string of TARDIS lights.
Then my niece made the windows and printed up the notices and taped it up. We made the birthday decorations blue and white to match Doctor Who colors and gathered together some Doctor Who items that we already had — books, notepads, and lunch boxes, as well as various TARDIS collectibles.
My nieces and I had fun in the kitchen making some Doctor Who-inspired Popcorn Crunch. We used pretzel snaps since they are reminiscent of the TARDIS, along with natural popcorn (I like Newman’s Own the best), white chocolate, both blue and white milk chocolate candies (M&M-like), and non-pareils.
For dessert, we had the popcorn crunch along with some “fish sticks and custard” and milk served in tiny milk bottles with blue and white paper straws (like these. We used vanilla pudding for custard and Walkers Shortbread Fingers for the “fish fingers.”
Now onto the birthday cake: The insanely talented Jessa over at SlaytaniCakeS in New York City created the birthday cake for us, and as you can see below, it’s the TARDIS! As you all can guess, it was bigger on the inside.
This was a vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream covered in fondant. The glow at the bottom of the photo is from the light-up blinking candles we had.
And here’s what the full dessert table looked like.
For the festivities, Dave3 donned a Doctor Who TARDIS zip-up hoodie, light-up birthday bowtie and necklace, and a Red Fez Felt Hat. And, of course, we watched Doctor Who, starting with Season 1 of new Who since the birthday boy’s favorite doctor is the Ninth Doctor.
A shout-out to the incredibly creative Gretchen of Three Little Monkeys Studio, whose own Doctor Who 50th anniversary celebration was the inspiration for this birthday party.
