Tonight sees the Season 2 finale of Bates Motel, the A&E drama inspired by the Alfred Hitchcock film Psycho, serving as a prequel to the film with a teenage Norman Bates helping his mother Norma run the Bates Motel.
Below is a preview you can check out from this 10th and final episode of this second season, titled “The Immutable Truth,” which airs tonight at 10pm ET/PT.
This is a television series that I’ve been watching every week since the series premiere and I’ve been enjoying it immensely all that time. I love the subtle throwbacks to Psycho and learning about Norman’s dynamic with his mother. Norman is a very likable character, so seeing his descent into mental and emotional madness is disturbing, but necessary if this Norman will eventually grow into the famous character we know from Hitchcock’s film. Norma, on the other hand, is unreadable; she can be a sympathetic character in one sequence, and then do or say something that makes the viewer despise her. She obviously has a lot of secrets, some of which involve Norman’s past behavior, a behavior that the teen doesn’t seem to remember. The season 2 finale will hopefully see him remembering more of his past, as he did in the previous episode. But more so, I’d like to know more about Norma and why she does the things she does.
“The Immutable Truth”
Premieres Monday, May 5 at 10PM ET/PT
Norman (Freddie Highmore) is haunted by a tragic event in his past. Norma (Vera Farmiga) tries to save Norman from making a horrible mistake. Romero (Nestor Carbonell) and Dylan (Max Thieriot) try to bring closure to the drug war. Emma (Olivia Cooke) makes a decision about her future at Bates Motel. Kathleen Robertson, Michael Eklund, Rebecca Creskoff and Michael O’Neill guest star.
