Michael Giacchino To Score ‘Jurassic World’

The upcoming next installment in the Jurassic Park franchise has found itself a music maestro.

It’s being reported that Michael Giacchino, who won an Academy Award for his work on the Pixar hit Up, will compose the score for the movie, which is titled Jurassic World.

Of the announcement, Giacchino said:

“My first stop-motion movies at 9-years-old involved stories where dinosaurs and men were trapped together on long-lost islands or far away planets. My first composing job was to write the score for the Steven Spielberg-produced video game based on the film “˜The Lost World,’ which was one of the earliest console video games to feature an original orchestral score. Having the chance to work on this new movie with the talented director Colin Trevorrow is an incredible opportunity to bring full circle the journey of dinosaurs and film that started in my backyard over 30 years ago.”

Director Colin Trevorrow also spoke of the news, saying:

“Michael Giacchino is a fiercely creative musical mind and a true “˜Jurassic Park’ fan. While this new score will honor the indelible work of John Williams, our mission is the same as the film itself–to create something bold and new for people who love dinosaurs.”

Williams is of course busy scoring Star Wars: Episode VII for J.J. Abrams, which is fitting, as Giacchino has worked with Abrams on many occasions, including LOST, Alias, Fringe, Mission: Impossible III, Super 8, and both of Abrams’ Star Trek movie.

In addition to Up, Giacchino has also scored multiple Pixar titles, including The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and Cars 2.

Jurassic World will be released on June 12, 2015.
