As fans of monster movies all over the world get excited for the release of Godzilla, director Gareth Edwards’ attempt at successfully bringing the iconic creature back to the big screen, they hope more than anything that it’s the movie they so desperately want it to be…while fears of Roland Emmerich‘s 1998 disasterpiece of the same name flash in their brain.
Thankfully you would have to work really hard to be as bad as or worse than Emmerich’s movie, and reviews of the new Godzilla have been very positive. But while you’re trying to completely delete the memory of the Emmerich mess from your brain, the folks over at Screen Junkies are here to remind you of it.
They’ve given their Honest Trailers treatment to the ’98 Godzilla, and as you might imagine, it’s painfully amusing. You can check it out below.

This movie is far from great but I didn’t hate it. As Max Borenstein said in GoDs recent interview, “What’s so fascinating is that IshirÅ Honda made a lot of those films –
the same creative team was involved in so many of those films and still
they reinvented Godzilla time and again in different ways and different
iterations” I see this as just another interpretation of Godzilla. That they deviated from traditional characteristics to bring something more dinosaur-ish looking monster isn’t a problem for me as it seems for most. I do think that Matthew Broderick was a poor choice for the lead and I don’t necessarily like the relationship sub-plot but those things aside, I enjoyed this movie.
