The GoD List: Comics For May 14, 2014
  |  @   |

Each and every week, “Blind In Texas!” Henchman 21 and “Alone Again” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of May 14, 2014. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

Henchman21 is still on vacation partying like a rock star somewhere, while I’m left to my own devices, which means, sorry this is coming at you a little late. My bad! But really, it’s Henchman’s bad because he left me alone again for the second week in a row! Luckily, fellow GoDs Waerloga69 and CultureSmash have come to my rescue once again to help bring you fine folks this week’s The GoD List!

Empress Eve

Star Trek: The Mirror Cracked #1 (IDW Publishing – $7.19) IDW had announced back in March that after the success of their Star Trek: Strange New Worlds photonovel, they would be doing an ongoing, bi-monthly series with John Byrne, starting with The Mirror Cracked, which will given an alternate look to the Star Trek original series episode, “Mirror, Mirror.” Photonovels can be silly at times, but with John Byrne at the helm of these, you’ll want to grab ’em if you’re a Trek.

Terminator: Enemy of My Enemy #3 (Dark Horse Comics – $3.99) Terminator: Enemy of My Enemy always makes my pull list, as it’s part of the Terminator franchise, which I totally dig. This series from Dark Horse follows scientist Elise Fong, who is targeted by Skynet, but in this story, there’s no resistance fighter that comes to help her. Great story, great action.

Hellboy in Hell, Vol. 1 TPB: The Descent (Dark Horse Comics – $17.99) Mike Mignola is back on the job, writing the character like only the creator can. This trade collects the first five issues and delves deeply into Hellboy’s secrets, giving the reader a look at Hell that isn’t what you might expect. Is Hellboy stuck in the underworld or will he return to continue saving the world from the forces of darkness? You’ll have to read this series to find out!

Arrow, Vol. 2 TPB (DC Comics – $16.99) Compiling issues #7-12, this graphic novel helps fill in the gaps between episodes and even follows the exploits of some of the characters when they aren’t being featured on the CW’s hit television program. If you were at all curious about Deadshot, Deathstroke, or Roy Harper then this will give you more information as it expands beyond the show!

Kill Shakespeare: 100 Penny Press Edition (IDW Publishing – $1.00) Celebrating the launch of the boardgame of the same name, IDW is giving fans a taste of the original first issue in an affordable reprint. If you didn’t read this the first time through, this is your chance to snag this amazing comic that turned the comic world on its ear. You may know him as The Bard, but some of his characters are after his blood. Why, you ask? Spend a buck and begin finding out!

Locke & Key Head Games: 100 Penny Press Edition #1 (IDW Publishing – $1.00) The series may have ended but the folks at IDW know that not everyone was given the chance to read them all. Luckily for us, they decided to offer an inexpensive way to start into the second story line! This run focuses on the Head Keys and how some folks aren’t who thy seem to be. Lovecraft, Massachusetts gets even spookier as this storyline takes off. You’ll have to read it to believe it.

All New Ultimates #2 (Marvel Comics – $3.99)
You could call this book THE YOUNG ULTIMATES and you’d be right but this series existing in the shadow of the Cataclysm actually makes more sense than most young hero’s comic book series. The team takes on a street gang in this issue as Jessica Drew finds a new identity and Kitty Pryde finally joins the team!

Fantastic Four (2014) #4 (Marvel Comics – $3.99)
This issue takes a step back into classic FF storytelling with Johnny Storm losing his powers just as B-list villains The Wrecking Crew show up with a new partner that helps upgrade their abilities. At the same time The Puppet Master has a mysterious plan coming together that involves Ben Grimm and his girl Alicia. This is part four in the Fall of the Fantastic Four story arc.

New Avengers (2013) #18 (Marvel Comics – $3.99)
The epic story arc of the members of the Illuminati (Reed Richards, Iron Man, The Black Panther, The Submariner, etc.) attempting to stop Earths from another dimension from crashing into our own planet (called Incursions). In this issue the heroes find the only Earth to have survived an Incursion is now on a collision course with us! This has been an entertaining story arc but it’s starting to get long in the tooth. Hopefully this issue will start to show a light at the end of the tunnel.

Iron Man (2012) #25 (Marvel Comics – $3.99)
Two stories are happening in this issue. The dark elves stop telling each other stories of torture and decide to spook each other with the story of the night of the Iron Man. The main story arc of the series, Rings of the Mandarins, continues with the Mandarins deciding it is time to reveal themselves.
