‘X-Men: Apocolypse’ May Feature Original Cast
  |  @   |

X-Men: Days Of Future Past changed the way we look at the X universe. What once appeared to be a reboot turned into a film franchise that reset itself thanks to the powers of time travel, much like how J.J. Abrams rebooted the Star Trek franchise.

Looking forward to X-Men: Apocalypse, the possible members of the heroic mutants are endless. But the sequel will be headlined by the cast of X-Men: First Class, with Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine and Channing Tatum replacing Taylor Kitsch as Gambit. But what about the cast of the original trilogy?

Well Apocalypse screenwriter Simon Kinberg talked to The Daily Beast about how the cast of the original trilogy will be reprising their roles. Minor spoilers follow after the jump.

During the after-credits scene of DOFP, we saw a cloaked Apocalypse moving the great pyramids with the powers of telekinesis, with the shadows of the four horsemen in the background. Obviously this meant that the most powerful mutant would be in the next film.

But it makes sense to at least have some or all of the original cast be a part of the sequel, given that a majority of the Apocalypse comic book story arcs also dealt with time travel and alternate dimensions. And seeing that DOFP has reset the X-Men film franchise timeline, having the original cast return isn’t as impossible as once thought.

Here is what Kinberg had to say about the possibility of the original cast returning:

[Apocalypse] really follows the “˜First Class’ cast. Meaning it is a sequel that will feature McAvoy, Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nic Hoult and that cast. It is not a sequel that would necessarily feature Ian, Patrick, Halle and the original cast. It would take place roughly between the past of “˜Days of Future Past’ and when “˜X-Men’ first started.

So while it has been confirmed that the First Class cast will the the main focus of Apocalypse, the sequel may or may not feature the entire original cast in a supporting role. How the X-Men film franchise chronology will change this time is uncertain.

20th Century Fox will release X-Men: Apocalypse into theaters on May 27, 2016.

  1. So, uh, the headline of this article is the opposite of what this article states. Sweet journalism bro.

  2. That’s why it said “May Feature.” Kinberg’s statement left the door slightly open for that to happen. Read the quote again.
