Finding Edgar Wright‘s replacement as the director of Ant-Man just got a little bit harder. On Friday, Anchorman director Adam McKay was in “advanced talks” to helm the film, and it looked like it was actually going to happen considering all the factors. But now it has been confirmed that McKay won’t be directing Ant-Man, as the filmmaker has pulled out of negotiations with Marvel.
Hit the jump to find out who Marvel may look to now with McKay out of the picture.
Before McKay dropped out of the running, he was actually one of three directors Disney and Marvel was considering to helm Ant-Man. Rawson Thurber (We’re The Millers) and Ruben Fleischer (ZombieLand) were the two other names up for the job. According to The Hollywood Reporter, McKay came to the decision on his own.
As previously reported, if McKay was not going to sign on, Marvel would move ahead with either Thurber or Fleischer. No word yet on who the studio is leaning towards.
McKay did send out a tweet after the news was confirmed:
And yes, met w/Marvel. Kirby & Lee r my Lennon Mccartney so it was awesome. But have other projects I'm committed to. Not sure it can work.
it doesn’t matter to me. Marvels conduct with Edgar Wright has left me with one attitude towards this movie. Ignore it even though I had great hopes for it.

I’m glad. I like Adam McKay’s work, but I don’t think his style fits Ant-Man. Zombieland director guy could work.
