You Too Can Learn To Speak Dothraki From ‘Game Of Thrones’ This Fall
  |  @   |

There’s many ways to tell when something is really popular, and HBO’s Game of Thrones has achieved plenty of them. But one of the very best ways to gauge popularity is when fans are so dedicated they’re willing and wanting to put in the time and effort required to learn how to speak a fake language that was created for a TV show or movie and so on.

This too is something Game of Thrones has achieved when it comes to the Dothraki language, a language that was created specifically for the show. Various online communities have been created to catalog Dothraki dialogue, vocabulary, and grammar from show scripts, and some people teach what they know of the language in YouTube videos. But come this fall, those who truly want to learn how to speak Dothraki will have the opportunity to through the release of Living Language Dothraki: A Conversational Language Course Based on the Hit Original HBO Series Game of Thrones.

Living Language is a well-established language learning program that’s been around for decades, and come October 7th of this year, their first created language program will be released. Here’s what’s on the way:

  • Living Language Dothraki ($19.99), which includes a language guide and audio CD featuring 200 words and phrases , available at the HBO Shop (store.hbo.com) and at physical and online retailers worldwide
  • Living Language Dothraki Expanded Online Course ($30.00), covering additional vocabulary and grammar including 500 words and phrases, plus interactive quizzes and games, available at www.livinglanguage.com
  • Living Language Dothraki Companion Mobile App ($3.99), featuring 15 thematic flash card decks, available on the App Store® for iPhone®, iPad® and iPod touch®
  • David J. Peterson began working on crafting the Dothraki language for Game of Thrones in 2009, and he’s also created languages for Syfy’s Defiance and Dominion, as well as The CW’s Star-Crossed. Of working on this new program, which will include over 500 words and phrases including many that have never before been seen or heard, Peterson said:

“I’m thrilled to be working with Living Language to produce the first official Dothraki text. This book will take you from arakh to zhavvorsa in no time, and the audio samples will help you perfect your pronunciation. I often get the question, ‘When will there be a Dothraki guide I can buy?’ The answer is now, thanks to Living Language. Me nem nesa!”

If interested in learning Dothraki, you can head to HBO Shop and/or Living Language for more information and to pre-order.
