Just when you thought there was no more hope for Ant-Man, two more hopefuls have been added to Marvel Studios’ director shortlist. With Edgar Wright, Adam McKay, and Rawson Thurberdirect Ghostbusters 3, it almost seemed like no one would even touch Ant-Man with a ten-foot pole.
However Neighbor‘s director Nick Stoller and Goon director Michael Dowse are now the new front runners to direct the film. Hit the jump for more info.
News of Stoller and Dowse possibly directing Ant-Man broke over at Deadline. The story was actually buried under the Frank Darabont in contention to direct the Snow White and The Huntsman sequel.
Stoller is best known for his work on Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him To The Greek, The Five-Year Engagement, and the recent Neighbors. He also wrote the scripts for the last two Muppet films, which is somewhat important since the Muppets are owned by Disney.
As for Dowse, he directed Take Me Home Tonight, The F Word, and the upcoming romantic comedy What If.
The thing that these two directors have in common is that they haven’t directed an action film. But their comedic backgrounds may help get either of them get the job, plus they could always get help with the action sequels from someone within Marvel.
We don’t actually know where this film is going or who is going to even make the cut, but with the supposed July start date just a few weeks away, Marvel Studios will needed to settle on a name soon, or they risk pushing Ant-Man to a later date.
