Angry Birds #1 is 100% less frustrating than the game is. BUT is it as much fun? Let’s find out…

Writer Jeff Parker is the PERFECT fit for this comic! He gives us three shorter stories in the issue that remind me a lot of some old Looney Tunes or Tom & Jerry cartoons. He gives each and every bird a unique and different personality, and every single one of them is pretty funny. The pigs, obviously, play the villains of each story. The best part about the book is that it’s FUNNY. I’m not sure that I’d want to read a serious, superhero-like Angry Birds comic — in fact, I know I wouldn’t. This comic keeps the tone of the game, which is light-hearted, joke filled, and FUN!!

Artists Paco Rodriques, Marco Gervasio, and Cesar Ferioli all draw in the same style and it’s pretty much like looking at an Angry Birds cartoon. They all have the ability to give the book a feel that’s quick and full of energy, all the while not falling into the trap of over detailed art. It’s clean and simple, just the way it should be. They include almost every bird and pig from the game, and give each of them some great artistic scenes of the birds and pigs “in action.”

Reading this book was like watching some of the great ’80s cartoons that were based on video games. Pac-Man, Dragon’s Lair, Space Ace, Pitfall, Laser Tag Academy, etc. All of those cartoons didn’t take their game “roots” too seriously; they took the basic premise of the game and made a fun, entertaining cartoon. And that’s what this comic is. I highly recommend that you pick this one up. It’s money well-spent.
