Though some delays have pushed Better Call Saul back to a 2015 debut, our interest in the show is still quite high. So every bit of news is something we should savor until we get to see a trailer. We weren’t quite sure what the show would be; all we knew was that Bob Odenkirk would reprise his role as Saul Goodman, with Jonathan Banks returning to reprise Mike Ehrmantraut. The two roles tell us that this would at least be a prequel of sorts. But we also heard that it could be a sequel. Can’t be sure how compelling one would be if audiences were to watch Goodman managing a Cinnabon, but I’m sure Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould can figure it out.

Now it is confirmed that the comedy drama will indeed be a prequel and a sequel, but it will also be a series that takes place during the vents of Breaking Bad. Hit the jump to see Gould’s comments, and the possibility of original Breaking Bad characters returning to the series.

Speaking to The New York Daily News, Gould confirmed that Better Call Saul would have a flexible timeline, allowing the series to thrive in any time of the Breaking Bad world.

“One of the great things about having a time line which is flexible is that perhaps some of it takes place before “˜Breaking Bad,’ during “˜Breaking Bad,’ and after “˜Breaking Bad’. That gives us the ability to bring back characters that were killed on “˜Breaking Bad.'”

But just because he said that, doesn’t mean that Walter White or Jessie Pinkman would return, Gould would be referring to other characters.

“We want to make a show that stands on it own, is its own story and is a brand extension”¦.We think we have a story that is worth making. “¦ We could never dream of the kind of success that “˜Breaking Bad’ had and the love we got from the fans. But (with “˜Saul’) at a certain point you have to do the best job you can and tell the best story that entertains you, get a good response and hope people like it.”

Obviously fans would like to see Walter White and/or Jessie Pinkman make a return to the world they know and love, but honestly, for Better Call Saul to work, we would need to see the two in limited doses. Too much of Mr. White and Pinkman would essentially turn it into some twisted form of its predecessor, so Gould and Gilligan look like they are taking the right approach with Better Call Saul by taking on new stories never seen in Breaking Bad.
