New Image Of Superman In ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice’; Zack Synder Talks Plot and Title
  |  @   |

With Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel follow-up Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice already in production, Warner Brothers Studios is slowly rolling out the marketing campaign for the highly anticipated sequel. First it was a pair of Batman and Batmobile photos, which were followed by an image of Henry Cavill as Clark Kent. Now a new photo of Cavill in his Superman gear has been released, and depending on how you look at it, it could tell us where the film is set.

Not only that, but the new image release comes with some very interesting details about the film from Snyder himself. Hit the jump to see what he had to say.

Snyder spoke to USA Today about multiple elements of the movie. Here are a few excerpts from that story, as much of it is not direct quotes.

On the film’s Cinematic Universe:

By bringing in more DC Comics do-gooders such as Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher), the new movie is thicker, denser and more epic than Man of Steel, according to Snyder. And it’s also the next step toward building a strong movie universe that ultimately leads to Snyder’s Justice League, the supergroup answer to Marvel’s The Avengers, tentatively scheduled for a 2018 release.”

Though filming has just started, Gadot has only been seen in a couple of shots, and has yet to do the meat of her work later in the year.

On the film’s plot:

Man of Steel was all about Superman finding his place in the world as both a hero and as a man, ultimately saving the city of Metropolis from certain doom. Dawn of Justice continues to immerse him on Earth by working at the Daily Planet as Clark Kent along with Lois Lane (Amy Adams) and Perry White (Laurence Fishburne). But it also takes him to new environments such as Gotham City and introduces larger threats, including Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg).

Perhaps that is why the image below feels so much like Gotham than it does Metropolis. I could be wrong, but that is just the vibe I get while looking at it.

On Adding Batman, Snyder said:

“I was in no rush to put Batman in the movie, but on the other hand it seemed organic the way our story was unfolding to start to feather him in.”

It should be interesting to see how Snyder adapts the Dark Knight Returns character into the cinematic mythology. We’ve seen so many incarnations of the Caped Crusader, both in his prime and beyond it, but we haven’t seen an older Batman like this.

This is what he had to say about seeing an older Batman:

“It’s cooler to see a crusty old Batman beating the snot out of guys.”

On having “V” instead of “vs.” in the title:

The director can’t say exactly how the relationship between the two superheroes evolves, “but suffice it to say there is a “˜v’ in between their names” in the movie title, Snyder says. He explains that having the “v” instead of “vs.” is a way “to keep it from being a straight “˜versus’ movie, even in the most subtle way.”

  1. Haha! For a moment there I actually thought Synder was getting serious with this series, but then I read he cast Jesse Eisenberg — Hollywood’s lovable wimp-extraordinaire — as Lex Luthor!

Good one, Zach! Build up the dark, brooding tension for the audience in the First Act, then dump a bucket of cold water on ’em, throw a banana peel underfoot, and then apologize by lighting an exploding cigar — genius!

Oh, and don’t forget to remind the audience about all the great deals on Kenmore washers and dryers at Sears before the credits roll. Just because you started your career directing TV commercials doesn’t mean you should, you know, grow beyond that or anything.

We’re ready to move past this “super hero” phase, right America? Yes? Please!
