“Let your imagination run wild.” This is a saying I’ve heard countless times growing up, as I’m sure many have; but what would you do if your imagination actually ran wild? What would the world do? In The Creators, a web comic created by Michael S. Bracco, this concept is put to the test and the result is devastating.
Maya is a Creator – a teenager with the ability to bring her drawings to life via emotional triggers; unfortunately, Creators are feared by humanity due to their inability to harness their powers and the multiple destructive situations that they’ve already caused across the country.
The B.C.E (Bureau of Creative Enforcements) – run by a former Creator and the headmaster of the Creator Academy – is charged with finding and registering all Creators. The B.C.E. Agents will use any means necessary to apprehend the Creators.
As tragedy strikes close to home, Maya quickly discovers that she is not safe, and that in fact, no Creator is safe.
The Creators provides quite the fascinating story. With themes evocative of X-Men, creatures and villains reminiscent of Men in Black, and characters so real they could be part of your own family, Bracco has crafted a deeply personal and tragic tale that tears at your emotions.
Bracco’s illustrations are dark and visceral, forcing your attention to the characters’ expressions and body language – which could perfectly tell the story if there were no words.
Not only is this a fantastic web comic, but it is one of the better comics I’ve read in a long time. With chapter one completed and chapter two currently running, I look forward to continuing on with The Creators as new pages are added every Tuesday and Thursday.
