King Diamond Abigail

If you’re a fan of King Diamond, than you know that today is a major observance in the annals of the Satanic singer’s catalog of concept albums, as it was on July 7, 1777 that Abigail LaFey come into this world stillborn …born…born…born…born.

Since it’s highly unlikely we’ll ever see a Google doodle for this occasion, to mark Abigail’s (un)birthday today, have a listen here below to King Diamond’s “The 7th Day Of July 1777” from the 1987 album Abigail.

Centuries ago on this day, Count LaFey discovers that the baby his wife is carrying — Abigail — is actually the result of another one of her adulterous affairs, so he does what any rational man would do — he pushes his pregnant wife down the stairs to die. The Countess’ neck is broken in the fall and Abigail is born dead. But, the story doesn’t end there. Oh, no no no. Nearly 70 years later, Jonathan LaFey comes to inherit his ancestral mansion — the tragic history of which is unbeknownst to him. Some crazy shit goes down and let’s just say that someone must have been waxing those steps all those years because they’re still pretty slippery. The ghost of Abigail rises, Jonathan finds himself becoming increasingly more scared, and Jonathan’s lady love Miriam becomes possessed by the evil spirit of Abigail. As you can imagine, things don’t end very well.

Rest in shame, Abigail, and, umm, happy birthday.

“We are gathered here tonight,
to lay to rest Abigail LaFey,
whom we now know
was first born dead
on The 7th Day of July 1777.

Abigail must be nailed to her coffin
with 7 silver spikes,
1 through each arm, hand and knee,
and let the last of the 7 be drawn through her mouth
so that she may never rise and cause evil again

Who will be the first?”

“I, O’Brian of the Black Horsemen.”
