Box Of Dread: The Gift Of Horror
  |  @   |

DVDs, CDs, books, wine, beer, fruit…all can be had with a monthly subscription for an affordable fee. But how do you get your monthly horror fix? Box of Dread fulfills that need. Every month a box of creepy surprises arrives, containing an assortment of goodies, which could include DVDs, t-shirts, stickers, comics, toys, and more. And although there is a general theme each month, no two boxes are exactly alike.

According to their FAQs page, they aim to “deliver the horror convention experience in a box”. Pick from two plans. The first is $20 a month, including shipping, and you can cancel at any time. The second is $57 for three months, including shipping, and you can cancel at the end of each three. Both plans are automatic renewal.

Intrigued by a Box of Dread unboxing on YouTube that showed a Pennywise doll, I searched the site and scoured the web for more info. The “swag” appeals to true horror aficionados, people who appreciate the obscure along with the more mainstream. Dread Central’s Box of Dread community members post their unboxings like an event.

I sent away for July’s for my aficionado spouse, and awaited my treasure. It was like watching a kid on Christmas. He got a remastered Puppet Master III DVD, a Big Trouble in Little China comic, a three-skull shot glass, two Puppet Master stickers, a Full Moon catalog, a month of Full Moon streaming, a Subspecies sticker, and a Head of the Family poster.

Looking through the community, some other DVDs for July are Tourist Trap and Gingerdead Man vs. Evil Bong. The Big Trouble in Little China comics have different covers and some members got a Full Moon deck of cards instead of a shot glass.

Needless to say, we are keeping our subscription.

Here is my July Box of Dread:
