‘Batman V. Superman’ Writer Chris Terrio Wanted For ‘Justice League’

Warner Brothers’ forthcoming DC Cinematic Universe kickoff epic Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is expected to be the highlight of the studio’s panel at the San Diego Comic-Con tomorrow morning.

In advance of the panel an interesting tidbit has leaked out regarding their next big superhero blockbuster Justice League, which like Dawn of Justice, is being directed by Zack Snyder for release in 2017.

Chris Terrio, the Dawn of Justice screenwriter who previously won an Academy Award for writing Justice star Ben Affleck‘s harrowing 2012 true life drama Argo, is currently in demand by execs at Warners to take over scripting duties on Justice League.

Terrio was brought onto Dawn of Justice to polish the existing screenplay by David S. Goyer, who was already overburdened with various writing assignments to bring other DC Universe characters to the screen. Goyer had also been working on Justice League for a time after previous drafts by Will Beall (Gangster Squad) were received with muted enthusiasm by the studio.

It’s pretty obvious that the studio wouldn’t be trying to woo Terrio to script Justice League if they weren’t feeling extremely positive about his work on Dawn of Justice. Good for him. He’s an excellent writer who deserved his Oscar for Argo, and from the sounds of things, he’s helped out Warner Bros. and DC immeasurably by classing up Batman v. Superman and balancing out the central conflict between Henry Cavill‘s Last Son of Krypton and Affleck’s Dark Knight Detective, with the myriad of cameos from other classic DCU superheroes such as Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) and Aquaman (Jason Momoa) — a task that clearly gave Beall and Goyer more than they bargained for. Now all he has to do is take the job, but Terrio has several other writing assignments to focus on first. Then again, a nice payday might persuade him to put one or more of those future projects on hold for the time being.

Justice League is currently penciled in for a May 2017 release while Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice opens in theaters on May 6, 2016.
