During the Legendary Pictures panel at San Diego Comic-Con, director Duncan Jones took the stage in Hall H to discuss his upcoming Warcraft film.
He addressed concerns about the pressure associated with adapting a property that’s been around nearly 20 years, and how he deals with the expectations of millions of World of Warcraft players by saying that we deserve to see an origin story how the conflict between orcs and humans began.
When asked about the technical challenges Jones said when you combine the motion capture and massive set pieces being used in Warcraft, creating the film akin to making both Avatar and Lord of the Rings at the same time.
New teaser footage was previewed, which showed several glimpses of both the Alliance and Horde making their ways through the world of Azeroth, while each faction’s leader voiced-over the footage with concerns over what could be inevitable war.
Production of the film has wrapped, and release is currently slated for March 2016. It stars Toby Kebbell, Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Dominic Cooper, Ben Foster, and Clancy Brown.
