“They’re sharks, they’re scary. No one wants to be eaten. I’ve been eaten, and I’m here to tell ya, it takes more than that to keep a good man down!”

You know a movie is a certain type of special when it begins with a shark attack on an airplane. Welcome back to the world of Sharknado! Capitalizing on the Discovery Channel’s money grab “Shark Week,” SyFy’s Asylum Productions hit gold with 2013’s Sharknado. Since Jaws in 1975, sharks have captivated American audiences and no one in recent years has profited more than SyFy channel, which has produced countless “epic” shark films including Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus, Ghost Shark, and last year’s Sharknado, a film about ferocious storms sweeping up all types of monster sharks and sending them flying into coastal California.

Following the mantra of “go big or go home,” Sharknado 2: The Second One begins with the titular weather event arriving in New York at the same time as Finn Shephard and April Wexler (Ian Ziering and Tara Reid, respectively), our heroes from part 1. He is a Sharknado celebrity and is immediately called upon to save the city from the horrors of flying CGI Great Whites.

Of course, if you’re reading this, you’re not here for film quality. No…you’re here like millions of Americans to bask in the cheeseball geek glory that is SHARKNADO! There are countless cameos to enjoy in Sharknado 2: The Second One. You have major talk show celebs like Matt Lauer, Al Roker, Kelly Ripa, and Michael Strahan, and then it’s an endless list of fun with C and D-list celebs like Andy Dick, Kelly Osbourne, Biz Markie, Vivica A. Fox, Mark McGrath, Billy Ray Cyrus, Perez Hilton, and wrestler Kurt Angle; hell, even Robert Hays of Airplane shows up to…well…fly the airplane. Taxi‘s Judd Hirsch… you guessed it, drives a taxi. Jaws lovers may want to take note of certain character names (hint hint wink wink).

If you loved the first one in all its bloody chainsaw glory, sit back for another revving and sawing good time as Finn (ha ha) slices and dices his way through “The Second One” with ridiculously wonderful moments such as his Independence Day-esque crowd-stirring speech, Tara Reid’s Evil Dead machine-hand, shark-surfing, and of course the continuing theme of finding things in dead sharks’ mouths. While the characters even joke about “jumping the shark,” the crazy fanfare this film has already received on social media suggests a budding franchise for SyFy. Perhaps, dare I say, the beginning of a SHARK-POCALYPSE!
