Batman

We the awesome and tireless Geeks of Doom have long covered nearly every hallowed territory of the pop culture domain. Now that we have a regular column devoted to upcoming Blu-ray/DVD release news called The Digital Wire that will be written each week by yours truly, you can consider us truly invincible.

Below you’ll find info on several future home video releases complete with technical specs, release dates, and links to pre-order at Amazon. We would greatly appreciate it if you use those links to order because a small percentage of each order helps keep this website running at max power.

This week we have Batman, Godzilla, Apes, Kubrick, Krull, and more!

Warner Bros. has announced that Batman: The Complete Television Series will be released on limited edition Blu-ray and DVD on November 11, 2014. Both sets will feature all 120 episodes of the classic campy treatment of the Caped Crusader uncut and remastered in high-definition for the first time and contain over three hours of bonus features including six new featurettes and interviews with several of the show’s principal players.

Both sets will also include an exclusive Hot Wheels replica of the Batmobile, a hardcover book featuring never-before-seen photos from the archives of star Adam West, 44 vintage trading cards, Ultraviolet Digital Copies for every episode, and a complete episode guide book containing photos from the series and a personal letter from Adam West to the fans.

Feast upon these photos of the Blu-ray packaging and contents.

And here’s a shot of the DVD set.

Batman

Godzilla

Gareth Edwards‘ recent well-received Godzilla – check out FamousMonster’s review here – will make its debut on Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, and 2-disc DVD on September 16, 2014.

The Blu-ray and combo pack editions will also include digital HD Ultraviolet download copies. Extras on all three sets will include the 2-part “MONARCH: Declassified” documentary and the 4-part “The Legendary Godzilla” documentary. The combo pack will come packaged in a limited edition Metalpak with embossed cover art. Don’t know about the rest of you, but I can’t wait to see and hear this bad boy roar and smash on my television. A double feature with Pacific Rim might be in order.

Planet of the Apes: Caesar's Warrior Collection

The 4-disc limited edition Planet of the Apes: Caesar’s Warrior Collection Blu-ray set will be hitting stores in time for the holidays and will include both Rise of the Planet of the Apes and the recent critical and commercial success Dawn of the Planet of Apes – read FamousMonster’s review of the latter here – encased in a special Caesar head packaging designed by WETA. 20th Century Fox offered a preview of the new set over the weekend at the San Diego Comic-Con. A final release date and extras have yet to be determined, but we will let you know when they are.

X-Men: Days of Future Past

Bryan Singer‘s mighty Marvel mutant extravaganza X-Men: Days of Future Past comes to DVD, Blu-ray, and Blu-ray 3D Ultimate Edition on October 14, 2014. Extras will include deleted scenes with optional commentary by Singer, five featurettes, a gag reel, image gallery, Second Screen app, and trailers.

Stanley Kubrick Masterpiece Collection

Warner Bros. will be offering Stanley Kubrick: The Masterpiece Collection, a 10-disc Blu-ray box set of the late master filmmaker’s finest cinematic achievements, for sale exclusively at Amazon. The release date is November 4, 2014 and the set will include the films Lolita, Dr. Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, and Eyes Wide Shut in addition to two bonus discs featuring new and previously-released documentaries about Kubrick and the cultural impact of his films. Included in this set is a 78-page hardcover photo book.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Does anyone else smell BBQ and gasoline? For its 40th anniversary, Tobe Hooper‘s trailblazing 1974 horror masterpiece The Texas Chainsaw Massacre returns to home video on September 16, 2014 in a 4-disc Blu-ray/DVD combo pack from Dark Sky Films and MPI Media Group. In addition to an all-new 4K restoration of the film and 7.1 audio the extras will include three audio commentaries with director Hooper and various members of the cast and crew, new interviews and recently-unearthed deleted scenes and outtakes, and practically every bonus feature from previous DVD and Blu-ray editions.

Krull

Krull, Peter Yates‘ 1983 cult classic of lavish adventure and romance on a dark alien world, is finally coming to Blu-ray on September 30, 2014 courtesy of Mill Creek Entertainment. While this release is not likely to include any of the cool extras from the previous special edition DVD it will feature a new high-definition transfer of the film with Dolby 5.1 audio. The best part is that it’s retailing for only $10, but you could probably get it cheaper if you shop around.
