Star Wars Return Of The Jedi Luke Skywalker Mark Hamill

We know now that filming for Star Wars: Episode VII is scheduled to resume later this month after the production went on hiatus to accommodate star Harrison Ford’s on-set injury sustained back in June.

But, while we’re waiting for more news on the highly anticipated addition to the new film, a recent “set” photo of one of the franchise’s other returning stars has surfaced — Mark Hamill sporting a “Jedi beard”!

The photo shows a bearded Mark Hamill standing crossed-armed in front of UK’s Pinewood Studios, where Episode VII is filming, looking very wise Jedi Master-y with this Obi-Wan-type beard. In the background of the photo, which was taken by the 62-year-old actor’s son, Nathan Hamill, there’s a sign reading “VII NOW FILMING” on the building. Also, in the photo, Hamill is holding a Lava Bear, one of his artist son’s creations. (You can see from “http://www.nathanhamill.com/news/” target=”_blank”>NathanHamill.com that Lava Bear gets around.)

Check out the photo here below that was posted to Mark Hamill’s Instagram account:

To the three of you new to the Star Wars franchise, Mark Hamill is famous for his turn as the young Jedi Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy. In the upcoming J.J. Abrams-directed film, which is set 30 years after Return Of The Jedi (the final film in the original trilogy), Hamill reprises his role, undoubtedly this time as a wise old Jedi Master. Basically, it’s everything I’ve dreamed about one day seeing ever since the mid-80s ushered in the Star Wars Dark Ages.

Below is an unfiltered version of the photo that appeared on Nathan Hamill’s website.

It’s unclear when exactly the aforementioned photo of Hamill in front of Pinewood Studios was taken, but the actor, who’s done a lot of voice work since his Star Wars days, was reportedly part of the filming that took place at the end of July on Skellig Michael island in Ireland. Co-star Daisy Ridley was reportedly on location for that 3-day shoot with Hamill, which has led to even more speculation about her still-undisclosed role — rumor are that the 21-year-old British actress will appear as Han Solo and Princess Leia’s daughter. If she’s filming scenes alone with Hamill, then perhaps she does play his niece, but is also his Padawan. Ridley is signed on for all three planned films – Episode VII, VIII, and IX.

Star Wars: Episode VII is scheduled to open in theaters on December 18, 2015, and will reunite original trilogy co-stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, and Peter Mayhew, and introduce newcomers to the franchise, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o, and Gwendoline Christie.
