A new movie in the Vacation franchise has been in the works for a while now. The movie was delayed for a time, but is back on track and filming is set to begin next month.
The sequel/reboot is set to star Ed Helms as Rusty Griswold, the son of Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) and Ellen Griswold (Beverly D’Angelo), who’s now grown up and taking his own family on vacation. Christina Applegate will play his wife.
Now the cast looks to be growing with word that Thor and The Avengers star Chris Hemsworth and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Horrible Bosses star Charlie Day are in negotiations to join the movie.
Up to this point the Vacation movies have followed Clark, Ellen, and their kids Rusty (previously played by Anthony Michael Hall, Jason Lively, Johnny Galecki, and Ethan Embry) and Audrey (Dana Barron, Dana Hill, Juliette Lewis, and Marisol Nichols) on their vacation/holiday adventures.
Hemsworth would play up-and-coming news anchor Stone Crandall, the husband of Audrey Griswold (a role that has not yet been cast). Day’s role would be as a river-rafting guide.
