Frozen producer Peter Del Vecho confirmed to TV Guide in anticipation of the ABC special The Story of ‘Frozen’: Making a Disney Animated Classic airing Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 8pm ET, that the Broadway production heavily hinted (and blatantly stated at some points) earlier this year is now in development. Still in the very early stages, Del Vecho will include directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee on the project.

Disney’s Frozen tells the story of Anna (Kristen Bell), who sets off to find her sister Elsa (Idina Menzel), with trusty sidekicks snowman Olaf (Josh Gad), iceman Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), and reindeer Sven. Elsa had unknowingly set off an unending winter in Arendelle, their hometown, when a fight with Anna caused her powers to flare and scared her into running away to live in isolation. Anna wants her sister back and the kingdom thawed and saved.

The music of this tale has spurred a manic fan following ranging from toddlers to adults, with thousands of versions of “Let it Go” and “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” invading the internet. It’s a natural step for such a popular musical film to try its hand at Broadway. Every parent of every child under the age of ten will take said child to see Frozen on Broadway.

Frozen also has ready made Broadway veterans, who can easily make the jump. Idina Menzel is the Queen of Broadway, having originated the role of Maureen Johnson in Rent; played Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, in Wicked; and is currently in If/Then as Elizabeth. Josh Gad originated the role of Elder Cunningham in The Book of Mormon (Frozen songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez also wrote Mormon). Jonathan Groff played Melchior in Spring Awakening. Kristen Bell played Susanna in The Crucible and Becky in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Santino Fontana (Hans) played Topher in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, Tony in Billy Elliot The Musical, and Algernon in The Importance of Being Earnest.

Seems like they don’t even need a casting director.
