Survivor Singer Jimi Jamison Dead At 63
  |  @   |

Jimi Jamison, best known as the lead singer of the band Survivor, was found dead today of an apparent heart attack. The singer was reportedly found at his home in Memphis, TN, by his son at around 1am on Monday morning and is believed to have died on Sunday. He was 63.

The Mississippi-born Jamison joined the Chicago rock band Survivor in 1984 after their 1982 smash-hit “Eye of the Tiger,” which was the theme song for the movie Rocky III, but was with the group for several of their other popular songs, like “Burning Heart,” which was used for Rocky IV, “High On You,” “I Can’t Hold Back,” “Is This Love?”, and “The Search Is Over.” He left the group in 1989, recorded several solo albums, and co-wrote/sang on the popular Baywatch theme song “I’m Always Here.” He eventually rejoined Survivor in 2000 for another six years, and then again in 2011 and has been touring with the band ever since, alongside original singer Dave Bickler.

Per Blabbermouth, here’s the statement released by Jamison’s family attorney Jeff Ward:

“This afternoon renowned musical performer and lead singer of SURVIVOR Jimi Jamison passed away at his home in Memphis, Tennessee.

“Jimi was a friend to everyone he met. He was a loving father and grandfather and was always a person who valued people more than anything else.

“The family has asked for privacy during this extremely difficult time.

“In lieu of any demonstrations of sympathy, the family has requested that donations be made to Jimi’s favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.”

The official Survivor Facebook page posted the following today:

Here’s a photo posted to the band’s Facebook page a few days ago (that’s Jamison second from the right):

According to their official site, Survivor had just come off a Summer tour on August 30, 2014 and had dates booked starting September 12th. Jamison was a great talent with a wonderful voice. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform with Survivor several times in the 2000s and it was always a terrific show. He will be missed. Our condolences go out to all of his family and friends.

RIP Jimi Jamison
