Hot off the heels of his MEGA-successful Kickstarter campaign, Ryan Browne didn’t just sit around smoking cigars and counting money! NO! He got hard at work on what we all wanted — God Hates Astronauts #1!!! Was it worth the wait? Let’s take a look……

Ryan Browne starts you laughing from the inside front cover and keeps you laughing until the very back. I’m not kidding here, folks. This is literally cover-to-cover funny. We get an awesome space battle/disaster and that goes right into a man’s love affair with a chicken. Yes, you read that right. A chicken. And if you haven’t read the first volume of GHA (shame on you!), don’t worry! There’s a great character that comes along to recap what’s come before so that you are not lost or confused at all. I don’t want to go into story details because honestly, if I told you, you wouldn’t believe me. I can’t stress enough that this is one of the funniest and most entertaining comics that I’ve read in ages.

ARTIST Ryan Browne is just as entertaining as writer Ryan Browne. Except, I’ve been told he’s way harder to work with. He’s one of the most detailed artist that I’ve seen. I’d love to know how long it takes him to do a page, let alone a whole issue. I have no idea where Browne gets his inspiration for the characters that are in the book, but it certainly is a sick, sick place. He makes everything look fantastic, ridiculous, impossible, and believable all at the same time. I mean, it’s a rare artist who can make a hippo in a chariot being pulled by astronaut centaurs share panels with giant bears and Sgt. Al Powell. BUT, Browne pulls it off with a great mix of unique charm and badassery.

You better be ready to grab this issue today, because copies are gonna go quick!! This comic is entertaining and outright hilarious from start to finish. Browne creates a universe where nothing makes sense, and makes it all make sense. People who know me, know that this is NOT the type of comic book I’d normally read. But, I’m really glad that I did, because it’s fantastic.
