Tom Hiddleston To Star In King Kong Movie ‘Skull Island’; Jordan Vogt-Roberts To Direct
  |  @   |

We got quite the surprise when Legendary Pictures announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2014 that they were going to make a film based on Skull Island. The island where King Kong originated from was expanded thanks in part to Peter Jackson‘s version of the iconic beast back in 2005, but it seems that this film would focus on the entire island has a whole and may or may not just be about King Kong.

While we are left to speculate what the film will be about, Legendary has released some fascinating new details about the film, and have already found its lead star and a director. Tom Hiddleston will star in an unspecified role, while Kings of Summer director Jordan Vogt-Roberts will helm the film. Hit the jump for more info.

Back in June it was announced that Vogt-Roberts was attached to direct a film adaptation of popular video game Metal Gear Solid. We haven’t heard much about that project since then, but with Skull Island scheduled for a November 2016 release, it looks as though MGS is once again on the back burner.

Here’s a portion of the press release detailing what audiences can expect to see in the film:

Legendary announced its plans to make a feature film based on the cinematic origins of King Kong during this year’s San Diego Comic Con with an original draft of the script by Max Borenstein. Previous works have touched on the island, but staying on and exploring this mysterious and dangerous place offers Legendary the opportunity to take audiences deeper inside this rich world with a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions.

The King Kong version in 2005 did a pretty decent job exploring the island and some of the life that inhabits it, so it should be pretty interesting to see how Skull Island will tie into the King Kong mythology. We will probably learn a little more about the film when we find out what kind of character Hiddleston will be playing.

Universal Pictures will distribute the film on November 4, 2016.
