‘Godzilla’ Scribe Max Borenstein Returns To Pen Sequel
  |  @   |

We won’t be seeing a Godzilla sequel anytime soon due to the fact that Gareth Edwards is currently preparing to direct one of the Star Wars spin-off movies. In fact, it will be almost four years until we get to see Godzilla stomp around again. But Edwards is confirmed to direct its sequel, and he will make sure that the next installment will have even more destruction than the last. That’s because he confirmed that Rodan, Mothra, and Ghidorah will be in the film. And if Edwards sticks to the same tone in the first film for the sequel as he said he would, it probably means that we will see a very restrained battle for the crown of the King of Monsters. But screenwriter Max Borenstein made every minute count, and he will have to do so again.

Deadline confirms that the Godzilla scribe is returning to write the tentatively titled Godzilla 2. The film opened with $93 million in its first weekend, then lost its top spot to X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Since then Godzilla has earned a fairly impressive $524 million worldwide.

Now other than the confirmation of Rodan, Mothera, and Ghidorah, we don’t know much about the film itself. Much of the problems with the last Godzilla was that it held back on showing the titular beast, but when we did seem him, it lived up to the hype. So hopefully we get more than just eight minutes of screentime with the beasts.

Legendary has been making some big announcements as of late, which also sees Tom Hiddleston cast in the Jordan Vogt-Roberts-directed Skull Island. Then there is also the Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim sequel in the works.

Godzilla 2 opens on June 8, 2018.
