Nashville Gets SMASHED! With Cutting Edge Film, Music & Art Festival
  |

Nashville, Tennessee is hot, not just because of the nighttime drama but because it seems to be the next “it” city. The city already hosts one of the most successful and largest traditional film festivals in the south with the Nashville Film Festival. Now a group of art fans, filmmakers, and musicians are seeking to bring the city its first real underground festival (every big city seems to have a major festival and an underground one too).

CultureSmash Nashville is a more inclusive festival that NaFF though by dividing its space and time among a short film festival, a visual arts expo, and a live music showcase.

Nashville is already known as Music City, USA, mostly due to the city being the epicenter of country music, but CultureSmash Nashville is demonstrating in the event’s first year that there’s cutting edge music happening in the city from other genres too. In fact you won’t find any standard country music on the schedule. There’s a reggae/bluegrass band, an ’80s pop/rock band, Americana, soul music, and even a couple of circuit benders. Circuit benders create music from broken electronics such as old computers and reel-to-reel tape machines.

The films are a truly international mix of quirky fair with a leaning toward genre movies such as westerns and horror, but there is a comedy produced by Bob Odenkirk (Breaking Bad) and a documentary featuring Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World). There’s even a high budget post-apocalyptic movie starring a giant talking panda from Australia! As far as art there are traditional painters with their work to show but there will also be live 3D printing.

CultureSmash Nashville is happening over two nights, October 17th and 18th. Get more information including tickets here. The event even has an Idiegogo campaign if you want to throw them some support. Check that out here.
