Each and every week, I, “Weather Wizard!” Henchman 21 and “Captain Cold!” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of October 8, 2014. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

It’s another busy week this time, but I’m going to find a way to restrain myself, mostly because I’m saving all of my excitement for the start of hockey season, the premier of The Flash, and the return of Arrow. Yes, I like a lot of different stuff, and that’s just who I am. Plus, The Empress is gearing up for New York Comic-Con, which begins this week. So, let’s go on another ride on the zamboni, because it’s time to face off against The GoD List!

CBLDF Liberty Annual 2014 (Image Comics – $4.99) I always like to highlight the CBLDF Liberty Annual when they come out each year, and this year is no different. The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund is a great charity fighting to uphold First Amendment rights and all proceeds for sales of this book go to continue their work. Beside helping them out, each year the CBLDF Liberty Annual has a collection of stories and pin-ups by some of comics best talent. Creators in this year’s annual include Jonathan Hickman, Jeff Parker, Stan Sakai, Declan Shalvey, Jordie Bellaire, Kate Leth, and more. You’re sure to get a good story or two out of this and it all goes to a great cause, so make sure you buy this one.

Wytches (Image Comics – $2.99) Scott Snyder. Jock. The team behind Batman: The Black Mirror reunite for a new horror series titled Wyches, interestingly enough, about witches and their impact on the world. I’ve read the preview comic that Snyder and Jock have created, and while it doesn’t tie into the story in this issue, it established a great mood and if the series is like the preview, this will be a horror comic that is perfect for this Halloween season. I enjoy Snyder most when he is working in horror, and Jock’s art work fits the mood that Snyder is going for. Horror is not the easiest thing to do well in comics, but Snyder can do it well, and I’ll read pretty much anything that Jock is working on, so this is a must buy.

Avengers and X-Men: Axis #1 (Marvel Comics – $4.99) Hey, it’s another Marvel event, and didn’t an event end like two weeks ago or something? It sure feels like it. Anyway, this event, Axis, is the one the Rick Remender has building to since the launch of his Uncanny Avengers. The Red Skull has Prof. X’s mind powers and he going to do evil stuff, as is his want. It’s got Adam Kubert on art so the very least it will look nice, and hey, at least the Avengers and X-Men are working together in a crossover, which is nice. If you’re not into deep event fatigue, this is for you.

She-Hulk, Volume 1: Law and Disorder (Marvel Comics – $15.99) Meanwhile, in the land of marvel books that are perfectly happy to exist in their own little world, we have the new volume of She-Hulk from writer Charles Soule. Soule not only spends his days writing all the comics, but he also has a job as a lawyer, which makes him the perfect writer to cover Jennifer Walters exploits as one of two lawyers in the Marvel U (the other being Daredevil). Soule lends authenticity to the legal proceedings in the book, but still gives the book the light-hearted feel that has characterized She-Hulk’s solo series in the past. Soule is joined on this volume by Javier Puildo and Ronald Wimberly on art. I’m a big fan of Puildo’s unconventional take on the character, which captures the character’s strength without sinking to the cheesecake that artists can sometimes use for She-Hulk. Wimberly’s art is also unconventional, but in a way that I didn’t care for as much, but the stories are still solid. If you are in deep event fatigue, you should read this instead of Axis.
