Warwick Davis Confirms ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Role In New Video

Warwick Davis Star Wars Video

One of the actors who appeared the original Star Wars trilogy but had not yet been confirmed to be involved in Star Wars: Episode VII yet was Warwick Davis. Davis played the Ewok Wicket in Return of the Jedi, and also played both Weazel and Wald in Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace.

A humorous new video has been released by the Star Wars YouTube channel, which features Davis talking about the new movie and revealing whether or not he’ll have a role in it. You can check out the video below.

Davis was just 11 years old (seen below on the set with Carrie Fisher) when he found out they were looking for shorter people for roles in Return of the Jedi. As the story goes, R2-D2 actor Kenny Baker was originally going to play Wicket and Davis was just going to be one of the background Ewoks. Baker came down with an illness, and that’s when George Lucas chose Davis to replace him.

He also played Wicket in a pair of Star Wars TV specials titled Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure and Ewoks: The Battle for Endor (which I personally watched just as much, if not more, than the big movies as a young tyke).

In addition to the Star Wars movies, Davis also starred in the title role of Ron Howard’s Willow, the title role in the horror franchise Leprechaun, played Professor Flitwick in the Harry Potter series, among many others.

Now the only question is, who will Davis play in Episode VII? It seems unlikely that we’re going to see a Wicket cameo, though with most other familiar characters being involved in one way or another I suppose it wouldn’t be too shocking.

If I had to guess, this will be more of a Phantom Menace situation where Davis is brought back to play one or more new characters.
