The GoD List: Comics For October 22, 2014
  |  @   |

Each and every week, I, “Freddy’s Revenge!” Henchman 21 and “Jason Lives!” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of October 22, 2014. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

Too busy making last minute additions to the haunted house to write a proper intro. Also, it’s kind of a slow week. Here’s what we like this week in the world of comics. Now don’t distract me while I peel some grapes to simulate eye balls and just read The GoD List!

Henchman 21

Silver Surfer Volume 1: A New Dawn (Marvel Comics – $17.99) I knew that I was going to enjoy the art on Silver Surfer when the series was first announced, because I have always enjoyed Mike Allred‘s clean and expressive style and the always perfect colors of Laura Allred. What I wasn’t sure of was if I would enjoy the story, not because I didn’t think writer Dan Slott couldn’t make an enjoyable story. Far from it, as I’ve also Slott’s work in the past. But let’s face it: the Surfer can be a bit of stiff. However, what Slott has done has made this a fun, breezy story with a lot of humor and plenty of action. I’ve often described this as the best Doctor Who comic on the stands, but that almost does this a disservice, as Doctor Who is rarely this funny. I just love this book. It is exciting and touching and hilarious and everything I want out of my entertainment.

Dungeons & Dragons: Legends of Baldur’s Gate (IDW Publishing – $3.99) Writer Jim Zub is well known at this point for his fantasy role-playing game work, between Skullkickers (which is just inspired by fantasy RPG’s) to Pathfinder and Exalted (both based on an actual games). Now he’s taking on the grand daddy of fantasy RPG’s as he launches Dungeons & Dragons: Legends of Baldur’s Gate. Legends of Baldur’s Gate is everything you would want in a D&D comic with lots of great characters and the popular setting of the Forgotten Realms. Zub is not afraid to add some of his trademark humor to the series, which is good because this should be a fun series, not everything in D&D has to be dark and brooding (looking at you, Drizzt). You also get some great art from Max Dunbar who captures the setting well and also does a good job getting the funnier moments of the script across. This series will also serve as a good primer for Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition and all the Tyranny of Dragons stuff going on right now which is the major thrust of their organized play. So, if you’re looking for a good fantasy story, or just want to get in on some D&D action, or even just want to read a funny comic book, you can find it all right here.

Edward Scissorhands #1 (of 5) (IDW Publishing – $3.99) Fans of the big screen Edward Scissorhands have something to look forward to today with Edward Scissorhands #1, a new 5-issue miniseries from IDW. Edwards has been living in exile for two generations now after the events of the movie, but now he discovers another unfinished creature and comes face to face with a teenage girl — the granddaughter of his old love.
