Marvel Almost Had Us All Fooled Yesterday
  |  @   |

Marvel shed light on a ton of new stuff yesterday with everything from Phase 3 to more footage from Avengers: Age of Ultron. There was a moment in the presentation where the title for the third Captain America film was revealed as Captain America: Serpent Society. The crowd (and no doubt the internet) was a little confused as over the past couple of weeks all signs were pointing to Cap and Iron Man duking it out in a Civil War adaptation.

Of course, this all subsided when later in the presentation mastermind Kevin Feige revealed that they were only kidding and that Marvel indeed was titling the next Cap picture as Captain America: Civil War and not Serpent Society.

More info is coming out today about where the idea for the clever ruse was coming from and how they thought it would be hilarious. Continue reading to see what Feige had to say.

Here’s what Kevin had to say about it at a Q&A after the presentation:

“We had this great idea because Civil War’s first up, right? … But we don’t blow our wad on the presentation with Civil War right at the front of it. A guy named Mike Pasciullo had the idea to put Serpent Society on there, and I thought it was awesome and hilarious. A part of me thought, ‘Are people going to love Serpent Society and think that’d be really cool?'”

So would you still be as excited about the Captain’s next outing if it was against the Serpent Society? There is a solid history there to work off of as most of the reptilian obsessed collection of villains were part of Captain America’s comic story line at one time or another. Even though Marvel was just toying with us, even Feige jokingly mentioned that “Now it’s on the radar.” All this points out one of the things that fans love about Marvel Studios and Marvel Entertainment as a whole, and that is that they seem to have a sense of humor about what they do and that ultimately it’s about entertaining the fans…and playing with their minds.

Captain America: Civil War (NOT Serpent Society) will hit theaters in 2016. Meanwhile, next up for Marvel Studios is of course Avengers: Age of Ultron that opens May 1st, 2015.
