Production for X-Men: Apocalypse is set to begin soon, and with director Bryan Singer and writer Simon Kinberg working on the script, casting new roles for the film is currently underway.
We’ve recently learned that Fox is looking at a shortlist of actors and actresses to fill the roles of Jean Grey and Cyclops, but while they have yet to find who can fill them, they have settled on Oscar Isaac to play the role of the legendary mutant Apocalypse. Hit the jump for more.
Variety reports that Singer has been meeting with a couple of actors for the past few weeks before settling on Isaac. There were a few rumors that Tom Hardy could take the role, but since there were rumors of him being involved with Suicide Squad, it became apparent that Fox and Singer needed to look for other actors.
Isaac isn’t exactly a household name, but has starred in a handful of acclaimed films. He had roles in Robin Hood, Drive, Sucker Punch, and The Bourne Legacy. He is best known for his work as Llewyn Davis in the Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis. He stars alongside Jessica Chastain in J.C. Chandor’s A Most Violent Year. Isaac will get even more attention next year when Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens is released.
According to the report, “Apocalypse will have more of the mass destruction that “˜X-Men’ films, to date, have not relied upon.” Singer says that Apocalypse and the story has the kind of action that will allow for such chaos to happen.
Kinberg has said that the Horsemen are in the film, so it’s likely that they would be casting those roles next. As to who could play them or how big their roles will be in the film, that is still unknown.
Fox will release X-Men: Apocalypse on May 27, 2016.
